Catherine Gomersall is an artist and independent curator who currently runs the media consultancy, Disruptor Web in Brisbane, Australia, however has extensive experience as a researcher and teacher. In 2011, her PhD thesis at Queensland University of Technology entitled On Fate and Fatalism: Photography and Fatal theories produced large scale interest. The two part thesis composed of a book of photographs and a their written interpretations respond to the notion of fate and fatalism which Gomersall discovered through her photographs. Through her work, she most largely asked the question of how notions of fate and fatalism can be explored, articulated and interpreted in a photographic practice, delving into areas including post feminism, pop culture and postmodern consumption.
